Major train companies have noticed inter-city rail travel is down and are offering more specials or weekend ticket deals to get travelers back. We decided to go by rail from Amsterdam to Brussels recently. The deal was less than €55 roundtrip by InterCity Express trains! Since then prices have come down even further with tickets on the high-speed Thalys train (Amsterdam to Brussels) from just €29 each way! This is a great way to consider seeing more of Europe, especially if you find great airfare into one of Europe’s main hub cities (even if your final destination is another city). You can save big bucks by looking for these deals online and booking them either in advance or last minute as we did. With the high cost of eurorail passes and the requirement to make a reservations for each use, this makes buying point-to-point tickets even more appealing. I would still consider looking budget flights for longer distances, but also check the country’s rail website as well.
