Going to Managaha Island is a must when traveling to the Northern Mariana Islands. This destination has been off the beaten path for many years with the only limited visitors from a few countries in Asia. Currently United Airlines is the only US-based airline flying into Saipan, but if transiting Seoul there are more budget friendly options. Purchasing cheap airfare to Seoul (or using miles for free ticket) then switching to T'way Airlines or Jeju Air is the most cost effective option for visiting these islands. Luckily there are a few more options for getting to Managaha Island now. During Covid it was really only accessible via private boat. There are a number of other vessels that now ferry people from the main island of Saipan to Managaha. They can vary in cost but are usually around $15 USD roundtrip per person. Overnight camping is allowed but you must get permission from the local government to do this. The boats run at a set schedule so you can just let them know you will take the return ride the next day. You will be greeted by amazingly clear turquoise waters and awesome white sand beach. Depending on the ocean swell, there can be a strong current in some places so you should stay within the marked swimming areas. I recommend visiting during the winter months of December to February as the weather is more mild, there is less rain and it's outside of the hurricane/typhoon season! Saipan was hit by two typhoons last storm season. I highly recommend visiting Saipan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, which is a US Territory, if you get the chance. The island is only around 10km by 20km in size (google it) so you can easily see most of the highlights on land in a few days. You will probably meet some people that were only going to spend a short time there and are still there years later. The real treasures are experiencing the friendly local island culture and getting out on the water. Its an excellent scuba diving destination with great visibility year-round and a few different dive companies.. There is also the Saipan Sailing School which provides many opportunities to get on the water and experience the island lifestyle.
