Now for the fun part, Nomad has two dive boats and they usually go to dive sites around Limah (small town only accessible by boat) which is around an hour boat ride from Dibba. There are lots of dive sites to choose from depending on the conditions. A few of the dives we did had noticeable currents with one drift dive so not much effort was needed. The dive at Limah Rock North, a small island off the coast, had lots of sea life and we got to see a leopard shark up close. It was swimming around checking us out, then just parked down on the sandy bottom and let the underwater paparazzi do their thing. Henri got a great video of this which is posted on Nomad’s facebook page. The visibility wasn’t good (8-14m) but the diving was still great. I’m always amazed at how much sea life can be seen out here. We got to see turtles, huge puffer fish, lion fish, eels and many schools of fish on the dives. To top it off, there was a dolphin swimming around after the last dive of the weekend, near Martini Rock! Nomad offers basic accommodation, great food (included with accommodation) and friendly, chilled-out atmosphere. It’s definitely worth a little advance planning to make the trip happen.
I went diving with Nomad Ocean Adventures in Oman. They run a PADI IDC Dive Center within walking distance of the harbor in Dibba on the Omani side. All visitors from the UAE must get preapproval to cross the border now, regardless if on a tourist or work visa! So plan in advance if thinking of heading there! The company needs at least 3 days advance notice in order to get the border approval paperwork done, then they will send someone to the border to assist you get across. Once again, plan ahead so you don’t get turned away at the border!
