![]() “The Address” building caught fire on New Year’s Eve 2016 and filled up the Dubai skyline with smoke. We were staying a few kms away when the fire started and could see the horizon filled with smoke hours before the fireworks were set to begin. Videos of the fire looked fairly spectacular and luckily no one lost their lives. The official explanation was that part of the cladding/insulation caught fire and spread quickly due to the winds. Pictured is the aftermath of the fire when viewed from the ground level of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. If you are in Dubai and want to see this area, the easiest way is to walk outside from the doors nearest to the ‘At the Top’ experience for the Burj Khalifa, which is located in the bottom level of the Dubai Mall. Going outside those doors will give you a great view of the Burj and put you next to where the fountains/lakes surrounding the Burj. “The Address” is just to the left when exiting. I think that is the closest building to the Burj Khalifa in this area. Since everything is covered now, I would think they will be repairing the damage soon which is good for residents.
