![]() We decided to head out for a short camping trip for the weekend since the weather was cooling down. I read about some places in Kalba and Fujairah that people camp at. We first went to the area in Kalba by taking the mountain road that passes near Hatta. When we got to the park it had a sign that posted closed for improvements until further notice. The sign was dated January 2012 so its anyone's guess when this will reopen. The area looked really nice as it was basically a small island near the inlet, with turtle nesting signposts. There is a bridge that goes to the beach area, which was gated off and no one in the guard building. The thought to lift the gate and drive in did cross my mind, but we decided against that. We eventually ended up camping next to the Sandy Beach Hotel in Fujairah instead. This is a popular place to camp/hang out at the beach. It attracts an interesting blend of expats and locals, the latter opting to have bbqs in the evening then leave. There were some noisy motorbikes going back and forth down the beach, but other than this, it was a great place to camp. Snoopy Island, and its great snorkeling, is just off the beach there. The beach was a mess in the morning with so much trash left behind from beach revellers, then municipal workers in orange jumpsuits showed up at around 7am to clean everything up. I can just imagine that scene happening over and over each weekend in the cool season. Most of the expats we talked to were from Dubai. Many of the vehicles were getting stuck in the sand on the beach, but if driving a car you can always park on the road around 100 meters from the beachfront area that most people camp at. I'd be a little hesitant to camp closer to the road as some 4x4 vehicles and motorbikes were using that area even late at night.
