Here is another post of sailing the Zen down to Tinian, another one of the Mariana Islands.
Buying a sailboat and learning to sail was a lifelong dream. Boats that harness the power of the wind always had an appeal to me. I liked reading about the tall ships that took people and goods all around the world and dominated oceanic trade up until the 1900’s. After buying a small motorboat shortly after moving onto the island, I decided it was about time to dive into the deep end and buy my first sailboat. Living on an island in the middle of nowhere limits the selections of sailboats available and it took a few months to hunt down some of the owners of the boats at the marina. The boat repair shops gave me some leads, but it definitely took some legwork to find out what was out there and what was possibly up for sale. In the end the only two sailboats for sale were a Hunter41 and Zen24. Since this was my first sailboat, I decided to go with the 24 footer intead of 41 feet; although the bigger boat would have been a really good deal (I knew the guys that ended up buying that one and got to sail on her as well). Going with the smaller boat seemed like the right decision… Thankfully a Sailing Club was recently started up on the island and I got to learn a lot from the members. My adventure of learning to sail was well underway. Here is another post of sailing the Zen down to Tinian, another one of the Mariana Islands.
