We had a week to spend in Tokyo, so decided to visit the Tokyo Disneyland with the kids. We were also heading to Los Angeles and eventually Orlando on this trip, but decided to visit Tokyo Disneyland out of the 3. We wanted the visit to be more of a cultural experience, so going to Disneyland in Japan seemed like a good option. The US Dollar is quite strong on the Yen (around 145 Yen per USD at time of writing). When I compared the entrance fees in Tokyo compared to the parks in the United States, it was noticeably cheaper, less than half the price!
The kids really enjoyed the visit. There is a boat from just inside the entrance that will take you to the further parts of the park. I wish we did that at the start to save on some of the walking. It was quite a walk past lots of food, snacks and souvenir shops before we got to our first ride. We did catch an outdoor show by the big ship there (We went into DisneySea since the kids love the water so much). Many of the rides and activities are water-themed including a nice replica of the Little Mermaid castle.
There is an indoor playground with numerous kid-friendly rides which is a great option if the weather isn't great outside. The kids spent a large part of the day there, with lots of other kids available to play with. There is a food court and shops inside as well. There area is really only set up for kids, so if you are visiting without kids you would probably want to avoid this area and focus on the large rides or roller coasters.
My son loved the 20,000 leagues under the sea ride and the line was very short so only took about 15 minutes. He liked it so much, we ended up going back near the end of the day and there was no line so we just kept doing a loop to go back on. There were a few rides including one of the roller coasters with very short lines, so I took my daughter on that twice! It was her first roller coaster, so was happy when
Overall, most of the lines were not very long and was a great experience for the kids. The themed rides that had talking storylines were all in Japanese, but you still had an idea of what was going on. I would highly recommend a visit to Disneyland or DisneySea if heading to Tokyo, especially while the exchange rate is so favorable when exchanging to Yen! The ticket prices were about half of what we would have paid to Disneyland in California.
