I attended the largest boat show in New Zealand and as you can see from the crowds, it’s a very popular event! The history of this boat show dates back to 1956 and has been held annually since then under a number of different names. There are literally hundreds of boat manufacturers displaying their latest models; I didn’t realize there were so many different boat manufactures out there! Companies selling every kind of accessory for boating and fishing are at the show. I would recommend spending a whole day there just to take in all of the displays, information sessions and look through the products on sale. Boats, outboards, electronics, trailers, rods, coolers, lures, kayaks, drones, spearfishing gear… it’s all there. Some companies offer ‘show only’ specials which can be quite good, so the shopping can be great. Every major fishing and tackle shop from NZ was represented there, some set up mini-stores in the events halls. I got to talk with the hosts of the TV show “Fishing & Adventure” Scott and Mig, who were very down to earth. Scott’s mom took the picture of me with the guys after we chatted about their recent episode filmed in the Far North. There were a lot of displays and food vendors outside as well. Overall was a fun day to spend looking and comparing so many boating and fishing products in one place. I would definitely recommend attending a boat show near you! If you are planning a trip to New Zealand, The Hutchwilco boat show is usually held May, so keep an eye out for announcements. The event organizers usually have the dates set by the beginning of the year, when online ticket sales begin. I purchased mine at the gate so just stop by if you are in the area, it's definitely worth checking out.
